Weekend Courses 

Flowers & Foliage, Experimental Painting & Drawing

Using a wide range of media, this  experimental drawing and painting course will take inspiration from beautiful flowers and foliage. Ideal for beginners or improvers, we will develop new approaches from observation , focusing on line, colour and form to create successful compositions leading to sustained artworks in the media of your choice.

Mixed Media Creative Landscapes 

August 9th -10th 

September 27th -28th  

Inspired by the fantastic landscape surrounding the studio, this course will introduce you to different materials, tools and processes to produce exciting and creative responses to your surroundings. This course is suitable for beginners and improvers, and anyone who wants to explore different ways of using colour, markmaking and media in their work. The course will allow time for plenty of experimentation and exploration with a view to developing more sustained pieces as the course progresses.

Observation to Abstraction

Discover how to develop ideas for abstract works, inspired by both the natural and manmade environment surrounding the studio. 

There will be a wide range of media and techniques utilised on this mixed media drawing & painting course to enable you to discover your preferences. 

During the course, you will develop an understanding of composition, colour and texture in the use of abstract works, with plenty of experimentation along the way. 

We will explore the work of a number of artists on this course, enabling you to develop a confident understanding of how you can use abstraction within your work.

Still Life, Composition & Colour

June 28th - 29th 

October 11th -12th 

We will find beauty in the everyday on this course as we explore how colour theory and composition can impact on still life paintings. Using a range of early 20th century artists to inspire us, we will work from observation to develop  compositional understanding and then learn and apply colour theory to create effective paintings in oils or acrylics. 

This course is suitable for beginners and improvers and full support will be given to enable you to develop your skills.

Colour mixing & colour theory, acrylics / oils - Half day - £60

March 9th 

This half day session will give you all the colour theory you need to mix beautiful colours for your paintings. You can select to work in acrylics, oils or watermixable oils and you will develop knowledge how colours can be mixed and applied to develop your paintings. This is ideal for beginners or if you are a little uncertain as to how to use colour effectively in your work.

Concertina Sketchbooks - Colour , Markmaking &  Pattern (£85 -full day, £55 -half day), 

March 29th

July 20th

This is an excellent workshop for beginners or those returning to art making.....it is also a lot of fun for the more experienced artist, with a chance to experiment with the format of concertina sketchbooks, exploring a range of materials and techniques. Resources will be provided to inspire your books and you will create personal and exciting pages throughout the day.

Introduction to Painting - £85

March 15th 

This one day course will introduce you to all the essentials of painting. You can select from acrylics , oil paints or water-mixable oil paints and learn about surface choice, paint application, colour mixing and composition. The morning will be spent experimenting and in the afternoon you will put what you have learnt into practice as you develop your own painting. Full support and guidance will be given throughout to help you to build your confidence and create a successful painting.

Drawing Day - (£75 full day, £50 half day)

April 25th 

This course will focus on how to develop your observational drawing skills. Using a range of different tonal media, you will develop your understanding of how to use marks and tone in your drawings. In the morning we will do a variety of drawing activities to better understand how we draw and and how we can improve our drawing skills. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to produce more sustained drawings from different starting points.

Painting Day - (£90 full day, £60 half day)

July 5th , August 17th, October 4th

A day for painting - bring along your chosen starting point (photograph, drawing, objects etc)....and paint!

Full support will be given in oils, acrylics or watermixable oils for you to create your chosen painting. If you need help deciding what to paint Liz can help with that too!

Printmaking: Full Day - £95, Half Day - £60

May 3rd, August 2nd, October 19th 

Experimental printmaking sessions, full day or half day. You will learn how to use a press to create striking and effective 'tetrapak' etchings. A variety of different prints can be produced over the workshop as you experiment with designs, colour and markmaking to create your prints.
